Sambutan yang dipanggil Bulan Kemerdekaan ini akan dilancarkan oleh Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak di Putrajaya pada 12 Ogos dan berakhir di Kuching, Sarawak pada 10 Oktober dengan perayaan Hari Malaysia.
Tema, logo dan lagu bagi sambutan kemerdekaan ke 52 ini sebenarnya berasaskan slogan dan konsep 1 Malaysia yang diperkenalkan oleh YAB Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Perdana Menteri Malaysia.
